According to Title 18, Part I, Chapter 29, Section 595 of the US code, a US employee cannot use "his official authority for the purpose of interfering with, or affecting, the nomination or the election of any candidate for the office of ... Member of the Senate...." Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) says that that is exactly what the Obama administration did when, allegedly, it offered a "high-ranking" government job to Rep. Joe Sestak (D-PA) to persuade him not to run for Senate against incumbent Sen. Arlen Specter (D-PA) in the Democratic primary.
