"Smart" Diplomacy ends in fire

On 9-11 and shouting "We are all Osama," an Egyptian crowd scaled the walls of the US Embassy in Cairo and tore down the US flag and tried to burn it. If this sounds familiar, there is a reason:
Tehran 1979 and Cairo 2012

In other commemorations of 9-11, a US consulate in Libya was burned down, leaving one diplomat dead.

In response, the US Embassy in Cairo apologized for American free speech. Exercising more "smart" diplomacy, they tried but failed to delete the apology.
